2021 Soul Train Award Winners Include Bruno Mars, Jazmine Sullivan, Ashanti

On Nov. 28, the Soul Train Awards hosted its yearly celebration in the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City. It was presented by BET and it included performances by star artists in the R&B and gospel industries, according to Deadline

Actors Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell hosted this event for the fourth time. The Soul Train Awards is designed to acknowledge the best in African American culture, entertainment and music, according to Deadline.

The show featured performances from great artists such as Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Ari Lennox, Fred Hammond, Tone Stitch, Ashanti, Musiq Soulchild, Leon Bridges, Summer Walker and Maxwell. 

Singer Jazmine Sullivan headlined the event by winning Best R&B/Soul Female Artist and Album of the Year for her album Heaux Tales, according to Deadline. Normani won the Best Dance Performance Award for the first time in her career and acknowledged other female artists in her speech.

Then, the legendary Ashanti was honored with the Lady of Soul Award and performed onstage with rappers Fat Joe and Ja Rule. Maxwell received the Living Legend Award and thanked the late Don Cornelius and the R&B community in his acceptance speech. 

Other winners included Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, winning Song of the Year and Video of the Year for their song, “Leave the Door Open,” according to Deadline. Charlie Wilson won the Certified Soul Award, Giveon won Best R&B/Soul Male Artist and Kirk Franklin won the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award.
