5 People Arrested at Burger King in Brooklyn After Anti-Vax Protest

In Summary

The protest occurred on Dec. 27 as it was the first day that the city vaccine mandate for private employers took effect.

Five anti-vaccine and maskless protestors were arrested on Monday after storming a Burger King in Brooklyn to oppose New York City’s COVID-19 protocol, according to amNewYork

Video shows dozens of people flooding into the fast-food restaurant as people were filming the incident from smartphones and cameras. Ironically, the protest occurred on the same day the city’s vaccine mandate was in effect as a result of the rise in COVID-19 cases due to the omicron variant.

There were people who chanted “Let’s go Brandon,” which is a slogan used as a vulgar insult to President Joe Biden, and one said, “No segregation, no discrimination.”

There is footage of Deputy Inspector Adeel S. Rana telling the crowd to leave the location.

“The manager does not want you in here,” he said. “We’re giving you ample warning, ample time.”

Those arrested were charged with trespassing after rejecting to leave the burger joint after being told repeatedly to leave. They are ordered to appear in court, according to amNewYork.

New York City requires evidence of vaccination in order to do indoor activities such as going to movies, sporting events, live performances and dining. Masks are not mandatory for people who are vaccinated. However, a number of businesses still make mask wearing mandatory for customers indoors if they are not eating or drinking.

A week ago, the largest city in America required vaccines for private employers with in-person employees.

According to NYC Health, over 97% of people in Downtown Brooklyn have gotten at least one COVID-19 vaccine and over 54,000 are fully vaccinated.
