Jay-Z won a contentious trial involving an endorsement deal gone bad over a failed cologne brand.Jay-Z’s 99 problems have dropped to 98 thanks to a Manhattan jury clearing him in a lawsuit that claimed he breached an endorsement deal for the Gold Jay-Z cologne brand.
The lawsuit stated Jay-Z failed to properly promote the cologne, but the jury ruled in favor of him, allowing the superstar to avoid $67 million in requested damages.
The tense three-week trial between Jay-Z and Parlux Fragrances LLC concluded after several back-and-forth arguments. Parlux accused Jay-Z and his company of refusing to make an appearance on Good Morning America to promote the cologne and also destroying emails.

Jay-Z denied the accusations and said he fulfilled his duties under the agreement.
The trial took a swift turn after an argument from Jay-Z’s attorney, who asked “why on earth” would the superstar want a product with his name on it to fail.
Parlux did not receive a single dime after the verdict, but also declined to award any money to Jay-Z. The husband of Beyoncé sought $6 million in royalties he said was owed under the deal.

“You failed to prove your case, they failed to prove their case,” said Justice Andrew Borrok to an attorney for Parlux after the announcement of the verdict. “You’re excused.”
In a statement to Billboard, Jay-Z said: “I’d like to express my gratitude to the jury, especially during these difficult times.”
Parlux believes they presented a strong case and is disappointed the jury rendered a verdict finding neither side proved to breach each other.
