Acceptance rates for Ivy League institutions hit new low

The acceptance rate at some of the country’s Ivy League institutions hit new lows in 2020. 

According to CBS News, the coronavirus pandemic has made it even harder for students to be accepted into elite schools.

At Harvard, the acceptance rate dropped from 4.9% to 3.4%, while Columbia’s acceptance rate dropped from 6.1% to 3.7%. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted high school students applying for college.

The group has been faced with multiple challenges, including remote education, canceled standardized testing, and on-campus life changes. 

According to Market Watch, the lack of diversity at these institutions can be quantified, with many having Black students making up just 8% of their total population. 

These institutions have come under scrutiny after the College Admissions Scandal came to light in 2019. 

In sharp contrast, community colleges have seen a drop in enrollment rates. 

According to the National Student Clearinghouse, enrollment at these institutions is down by almost 10%
