Hill Harper has announced that he is launching a digital wallet, The Black Wall Street, on Thursday. It will be the first Black-owned digital wallet and Bitcoin exchange platform in the United States, according to EURweb.com.
The actor most known for his roles on CSI: NY and The Good Doctor hopes the application will help Black America with financial literacy and address the staggering wealth gap.
“The Black Wall Street app and digital wallet and theblackwallstreet.com will allow our communities to learn financial literacy, as well as invest and recirculate dollars within the Black community,” Harper said. “It’s important that folks understand that we are quickly moving from a hard money or physical dollars world to a digital currency world. Digital money is here to stay.”
According to a tweet from Harper, the app takes its inspiration from one of his previous books on financial literacy.
“Not a new book, BUT I am launching a new APP based on one of my books!!! I’ve been working hard on a wealth gap platform & digital wallet I wished for in my book “The Wealth Cure” Please check it out & sign up here: http://theBlackWallStreet.com” the tweet read.

In his interview with EURWeb, Harper also spoke on the importance of Black and Brown people moving away from using predatory establishments like check cashing places and paying bills with cash apps not owned by people within the community. He emphasized his belief that the pathway to financial prosperity in Black and Brown communities is through cryptocurrency.
“This is a critical component because the buying power of the actual physical dollar has been decreasing significantly over the last 100 years. And technology offers us the opportunity to change the racial wealth gap moving into the future. It’s such an incredible application that technology has developed,” Harper said.
The actor said he envisions a new Black Wall Street that cannot be torn down. A reference 1921 Tulsa race massacre, in which a white mob looted and bombed Black-owned businesses of the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“Technology allows us to create our own virtual Black Wall Street,” Harper said to North by Northwestern.
The Black Wall Street will go on a tour titled The Digital Financial Revolution starting on April 30 and ending on Juneteenth in Tulsa.
