AG Garland asked to investigate FBI background check of Justice Brett Kavanaugh

The FBI’s background check and investigation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh have been called fake by a U.S. senator.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island alleged that the investigation “appears to have been politically-constrained and perhaps fake.”

Whitehouse served on the Senate Judiciary Committee and sent a letter to newly-confirmed Attorney General Merrick Garland asking him to look into the FBI’s 2018 probe.

Justice Kavanaugh was accused of sexual assault and faced several other allegations of misconduct from women who attended high school and college with him.

Kavanaugh denied the allegations and Senate confirmed him in a 50-48 vote.

In his letter to Garland, Whitehouse alleges the FBI refused to hear testimony from witnesses, ignored inquiries, and used a tip line to accept allegations and evidence.

He also alleges former FBI Director Christopher Way did not answer Congressional inquiries about whether the background check was consistent with procedures.
