An Arkansas mother demands the termination of a teacher after she says her five-year-old son was forced to unclog a school toilet with his bare hands.   

The mother, Ashley Murry, stated in an interview with local NBC affiliate KARK, that her son Ashton, informed her that his teacher, Karla Lasiter, “made him go in the toilet and get his feces and the dirty tissue out of the toilet.”  

Lasiter has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Pulaski County Special School District. The report also cites that Murry has not received any explanation for the teacher’ss actions stating that when she spoke with her on the phone she couldn’t give an answer. 

“She got on the phone with me and she said she didn’t have an explanation, she just knew she was wrong,” Murry said in the interview. 

In a statement Tuesday, the Pulaski County Special School District said they aim to ensure that every student is treated with respect in all areas of the education process.  

“District administrators are aware of an alleged situation that occurred at Crystal Hill Elementary on Friday, March 5. We are actively investigating this alleged action in the classroom. As with district policy, we cannot disclose information in regard to disciplinary personnel matters,” the statement read. 

In an updated statement Wednesday, the Pulaski County Special School District Superintendent, Dr. Charles McNulty, says the district understands the concern and outrage over the incident and that the human resources department is investigating the matter. 

“Systemic racism, classism, sexism – they play in part of our daily lives, and sometimes these events overshadow who we are and who we need to be,” said Dr. McNulty.

The Murry family has started a GoFund Me campaign while a petition to terminate Lasiter and revoke her license is circulating around social media.
