Atlanta Falcons Become First NFL Team Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19

By: Kelton Brooks

The Atlanta Falcons can’t blow this lead, right?

The Falcons have become the first team to become 100% vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. Not even Tom Brady could keep the Falcons from this Super Bowl-esque feat.

Atlanta started training camp with five players on the reserve/COVID-19 list—meaning they contracted the virus—but all have since been removed from the list.

According to the Falcons, not only are they the first, but they are the only NFL team to reach the 100% vaccinated. No other NFL team has made that claim.

The NFL released a COVID-19 policy early in the offseason, stating teams that reach an 85% vaccination rate can avoid COVID-19 safety mandates around testing, masking, social distancing and gain more access to team facilities.

Players don’t have to adhere to the same vaccine mandate as coaches and team staff members. However, the league has informed clubs of what could happen if a team has an outbreak.

Last season, the league postponed and rescheduled games. This season, the NFL plans to cancel games when COVID-19 outbreaks occur in 2021.

The NFL stated that teams with an outbreak of unvaccinated players will have their game canceled and take a loss. Players on both teams will forfeit their game checks.
