Ben & Jerry’s Says White People Need To Fight Police Brutality

In Summary

Owners of the iconic ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s have worked throughout the years to dismantle tools in systemic racism and call for white people to get involved.

Co-founders of the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s are calling out police brutality and saying the abuse of Black people is a white problem.

In an op-ed published Tuesday on USA Today, owners Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield said while Black people bear the brunt of police brutality, white people are the ones allowing it to continue happening. The company is known for its progressive values and takes notice of the power of the white vote, which places majority leadership that is “overwhelming white” over others.

Cohen and Greenfield are co-chairs of the Campaign to End Qualified Immunity, which includes 2,000 other business leaders, professional athletes as well as dozens of organizations. The group works to dismantle the systemic legal principle that shields government officials from being held accountable for their actions.

“The people we pay to protect and serve are killing and brutalizing Black people before our very eyes. And we’re letting them get away with it,” Cohen and Greenfield wrote in their op-ed according to The Hill
