President Joe Biden will announce Thursday that civilian federal workers must receive the COVID-19 vaccine or take regular coronavirus tests, socially distance, wear masks at all times and be restricted on most travel, the New York Times reported.
Biden said that his speech would be about “the next steps in our effort to get more Americans vaccinated.”
The White House’s decision mandating federal workers be vaccinated against the coronavirus comes as the Delta variant of the virus spreads rapidly across the country.
Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed its policy regarding masks, recommending that vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors. In May, the CDC had lifted the mask mandate for vaccinated people.

“They got a good grade, probably an A in terms of biological science when they came out with some of those recommendations, but they got an incomplete at best on behavioral science,” Saad Omer, Director of the Yale Institute of Global Health, told NPR.
Biden’s decision comes after The Department of Veterans Affairs said it requires 115,000 of its healthcare workers to be vaccinated against the virus.
