President Joe Biden is set to unveil two infrastructure proposals in the next few weeks to address the country’s aging infrastructure and social welfare gaps.
Biden will unveil his first infrastructure plan on Wednesday that would focus on rebuilding roads and railways, White House press secretary Jen Psaki told Fox News on Sunday.
His second plan, which will be released “in a couple of weeks,” according to Psaki, will address childcare and healthcare reforms, CNBC reported.
Biden’s proposed legislation would carry a price tag of $3 trillion, according to reports.
According to the New York Times, a few Biden advisors believe that two separate bills would make it easier for Republicans to get on board for supporting the proposal aimed at fixing America’s roads and other transportation needs.
The second Biden plan would include a proposal for free community college and universal prekindergarten and “will address a lot of issues that American people are struggling with,” according to the Times.
“The total package we’re still working out, but he’s going to introduce some ways to pay for that, and he’s eager to hear ideas from both parties as well,” Psaki said.
Psaki hinted that Biden’s plan might come with an increase in taxes, something that will most likely hit opposition from Republicans, who have been critical of tax increases.
“We’re not quite at the legislative strategy yet, Chris, but I will say that I don’t think Republicans in this country think we should be 13th in the world as it relates to infrastructure,” Psaki told Fox News. “Roads, railways, rebuilding them, that’s not a partisan issue. That’s a lot of what the president will talk about this Wednesday.”
