Biden’s primetime address to look back at coronavirus shutdowns, what’s next

President Joe Biden will deliver his first primetime address tonight to discuss the past year as the country has been battling the coronavirus pandemic that’s changed the way of life.

“I’m going to [deliver a] primetime address to the American people and talk about what we’ve been through as a nation this past year, but more importantly, I’m going to talk about what comes next,” the president said on Wednesday. “I’m going to launch the next phase of the COVID response and explain what we will do as a government and what we will ask of the American people.”

The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating effect on the country, with more than 29 million people contracting COVID-19 and more than half a million Americans dying from the disease, according to data from The New York Times.

Biden will most likely discuss the newly passed $1.9 trillion covid relief bill that will see that most Americans receive direct payments of $1,400, expanded unemployment benefits, expanded child tax credit, billions for COVID-19 vaccinations and contact tracing and aid to industries hit hard by the pandemic.

Biden’s primetime address will air on BNC live at 7 p.m. ET.

D.C. Today Host Del Walters and National News Anchor Laverne McGee will do a post-speech breakdown of Biden’s address.
