According to CNN, in the lawsuit, Bernard said she met the comedian on the set of The Cosby Show and that he offered to be an acting mentor to her. The lawsuit also said Cosby told Bernard he would view her as his daughter and warned her about “the sexual pressures of Hollywood.”

Bernard said Cosby “violently, and without permission grabbed and squeezed” her breasts during an acting exercise focused on vocal projection. She also alleged that in or around August of 1990, Cosby drugged and raped her at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She said he told her he was arranging a meeting with a producer there who could help her advance her career.

Andrew Wyatt, Cosby’s spokesperson, said, “This is just another attempt to abuse the legal process, by opening up the flood gates for people, who never presented an ounce of evidence, proof, truth and/or facts, in order to substantiate their alleged allegations.”

Bernard’s lawsuit claims Cosby threatened to “erase” her and prevent her from working in the entertainment industry if she reported what happened.

“I have waited a long time to be able to pursue my case in court and I look forward to being heard and to hold Cosby accountable for what he did to me,” Bernard said. “Although it occurred long ago, I still live with the fear, pain and shame every day of my life.”

Before pursuing her lawsuit, Bernard had been vocal about Cosby’s behavior. She spoke to numerous media outlets and attended his trial, where he was charged and convicted of sexually assaulting a Temple University employee. Video from the Associated Press shows Bernard leaving the courtroom emotionally after the guilty verdict was announced.

Cosby, who spent more than two years in prison, recently had his conviction overturned by Pennsylvania’s highest court, which cited lack of due process.
