Tallahassee, Florida—May 15, 2019—Black News Channel Chairman and visionary J.C. Watts, Jr., former congressman from Oklahoma, celebrated athlete, and broadcast and cable news veteran, took the opportunity to speak directly to predominantly black Millennials during his guest appearance on the nationally syndicated radio and TV show, The Breakfast Club, with hosts Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Envy. Watts was joined by Amir Windom, BNC’s director of creative services and music, who has worked on many successful entertainment projects in music, film, and TV. During the show, Watts emphasized to Millennials that Black News Channel (BNC) is both a home for them and the nation’s only African American news network with news programming gathered, written, and produced by people of color for people of color. The Breakfast Club has four million daily listeners on 90 stations around the world, as well as 3.3 million YouTube subscribers and one million daily viewers on Revolt TV.

Research shows that black Millennials have $162 billion in buying power and undisputed cultural influence. These Millennials are using their power to successfully raise awareness of issues facing the black community and influence decisions shaping our world. Watts wants Millennials to know that BNC is creating news and educational content for them that will have greater ad spend opportunities and more diverse programming. BNC’s news will include the priorities, issues, realities, and points-of-view of the African American people and communities. The network will accurately represent the vast diversity present in the African American culture. Today’s black Millennials comprise 25-percent, or about 11.4 million, of the total African American population, and studies show that the enormous buying power of African American Millennials is leveraged to support brands, products and services that are culturally relevant and socially conscious to the needs of the African American community.

“Our research shows that black Americans are hungry for news content that is empowering, educational, and representative of their experiences,” says Watts. “We are excited to offer programming that appeals to all African Americans, including Millennials.”

In order to reach the largest audience of African American Millennials, Watts also recently participated in an interview with award-winning reporter and anchor Donna Wilson who hosts the Bloomberg Urban Business News Report on Bloomberg Radio with an audience reach of one million plus listeners. In addition, Watts made a guest appearance on Bold TV, a digital news network committed to bipartisan dialogue and innovation for people, business and communities. Bold TV has an audience reach of five million viewers.
