Tallahassee, Florida—May 14, 2019–During an Upfront Event held at the world-famous Alvin Ailey Dance Theater in New York City, Black News Channel (BNC)—the nation’s only African American news network—provided attendees a sneak peek at its unique news programming and advertising opportunities that will allow media buyers and corporations to speak directly to African American consumers, a market segment that spends $1.2 trillion annually on products and services. Through programming clips and presentations by BNC’s key executive team, attendees were informed, educated, and inspired with the information that Black News Channel is the only television news network with news programming gathered, written, and produced by people of color for people of color.

BNC’s Upfront Event began with a panel discussion about the strong desire and anticipation for a culturally-specific news network by the African American community. Panel participants included network Chairman J.C. Watts, Jr., as well as special guests Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee who host the nationally syndicated radio and TV show, The Breakfast Club. Alzo Slade, a correspondent for VICE News Tonight that airs on HBO, moderated the panel discussion. Following the panel, BNC’s executive team reiterated the network’s mission to provide intelligent programming that is informative, educational, entertaining, inspiring and empowering to its African American audience through video presentations and anecdotal stories. The audience was also introduced to the network’s charter advertiser program offerings that include many benefits, as well as exclusive deals. After the programming and advertising presentation, attendees were entertained by a live dance performance from students of The Ailey School of dance that has been training world-class dancers since 1969. A reception followed the dance performance.

“BNC will serve up authentic, genuine, responsible and responsive news to black Americans,” says network Chairman J.C. Watts, Jr. “Our news programming will create a deep, rich connection with our target audience in a way no other existing network has been able to do. We will not only provide relevant news, but we will also celebrate black lives, culture and history.”

“BNC affords a one-of-a-kind opportunity for advertisers to speak directly to the African American consumer,” says Michael Anapolsky, BNC vice president of ad sales. “Our network goal is to partner with advertisers who want to build a lasting relationship with the African American community, and so we are offering Charter Advertiser status and exclusive deals to a limited number of companies and for a limited time prior to the network’s launch.”
