“Hair Love” is centered around the relationship between an African American father, Stephen, his daughter, Zuri and her hair, according to Cherry’s synopsis. The story originated from a desire to promote hair love among young men and women of color, as well as a dearth of representation in popular animation films.
Blue Ivy previously became the second-youngest Grammy Award winner for her feature on her mother’s track “BROWN SKIN GIRL.” She also made history as the youngest person to win an MTV Video Music Award for the same song.
