The medical examiner’s office has not yet determined a cause of death and the investigation is ongoing. The case is similar to the disappearance and death of Illinois State University student Jelani Day.

Day was last seen on the campus on Aug. 24. He was reported missing the following day and police say his car was found in Peru, Illinois, as agencies began searching for him. A little more than a week later, on Sept. 4, a male body was found near the “south bank of the Illinois River,” but it wasn’t identified as Day until Sept. 23.

The families of both Brown and Day maintain the men were not depressed. Day’s mother, Carmen Bolden Day, said her son would not have taken his own life. Brown’s friends and family say he was happy and did not have any enemies.
