As if being in the fifth-longest-running Broadway musical ever isn’t enough, Johnson, who first joined the ensemble in June 2018 as an understudy, made history in 2019 as the first woman of color to embody the character on Broadway.

Wicked, according to its official website, focuses on what happened in Oz before Dorothy’s dramatic arrival, introducing a young, smart, fiery and misunderstood woman with emerald green skin and an astonishing talent. She forms an unlikely friendship with a popular and vivacious blonde, but it all changes when the public decides to label one as good and the other as wicked.

Since its premiere in 2003, the show has been seen by over 60 million people in over 16 countries, garnering more than $5 billion in sales and over 100 international honors, including a Grammy and three Tonys, per THR.
