Buckingham Palace hires third party to investigate bullying claims against Meghan Markle

The saga between Meghan Markle and Buckingham Palace is far from over, as the Palace has hired an outside law firm to claim that the Duchess of Sussex bullied staff.

“Our commitment to look into the circumstances around allegations from former staff of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex is being taken forward, but we will not be providing a public commentary on it,” a spokesman for the Palace told CNN on Monday.

The news comes after earlier reports saying that the Palace would investigate the claims against Markle, which she and Prince Harry have said were “defamatory.”

“Let’s just call this what it is — a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation,” their spokesperson said, according to CNN. “We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of The Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet.”

Abuse claims from Markle to royal staff came right before her and Prince Harry’s highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they discussed reasons why they retreated from being senior members of the royal family and moving to the U.S., including allegations of racism.

Markle said that someone from the Palace expressed concern over the possible skin color of her and Harry’s child, Archie. The couple refused to reveal who made the comments.

Prince William responded to those claims of racism by saying that the royal family is “very much not a racist family.”

According to CNN, The Palace is investigating claims of racism, which they’re keeping in-house.

The Duchess of Sussex opened up to Winfrey about her mental health, including thoughts of suicide. She claimed that she brought this up to the Palace seeking help and was often dismissed by human resources.
