Cop Fired for Pointing Gun at 19-Year-Old Black Man Delivering Newspapers

A Michigan cop was fired from his job after he harassed and pointed a gun at a 19-year-old Black man as he was delivering newspapers, according to News 10.   

Dewitt police officer Chad Vorce was off duty when he followed a Lansing State Journal delivery man, Alexander Hamilton, at a gas station on Jan. 14, where he stopped him and pulled out his weapon.   

According to WXYZ Detroit, Vance followed the 19-year-old because he thought he was a suspect in recent break-ins.  

A Michigan state police trooper repeated what Vorce allegedly told Hamilton: “When I see a Black guy in my neighborhood, I think you’re doing stuff like this,” according to a news report posted by civil rights attorney Ben Crump.   

A witness said Vorce threatened to shoot Hamilton, News 10 reported.  

The City of Dewitt found out about the incident on Jan. 14, the same day Vorce was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.   

Hamilton declined to press charges, according to the report.
