Cornel West on His Resignation from Harvard University

The Black scholar and progressive activist Cornel West made his resignation from Harvard University official. In a statement he put on Twitter, he calls out the school for its “intellectual and spiritual bankruptcy” and “superficial diversity.” The 68-year-old is an ardent supporter of Palestinians and believes that Harvard is very hostile to them.

He went on “Prime with Charles Blow” to go in depth of why he’s resigning from one of the top institutions in the country.

“I refuse to go silently in the night because in the end it is not about me, same was true with our dear sister Nikole Hannah-Jones and the others. It’s really about everyday people, Black people who have to put up with this disrespect, being dismissed, being devalued across the board,” West said to Blow. “Well, I’m going to use it [my celebrity] as a way to casting a light on the truth.”
