DA: Missing 19-year-old Saniyya Dennis presumed to have died by suicide

Buffalo State College student Saniyya Dennis is believed to have died by suicide, officials announced Thursday, according to PIX 11.

“It appears this poor girl took her own life,” Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said.

Dennis, the daughter of rapper 40 Cal, whose real name is Calvin Byrd, was last seen leaving her dorm room on April 24. She had reportedly gotten into an argument with her boyfriend earlier in the day where the two broke up, Flynn said.

Her boyfriend is not considered a suspect in her disappearance, according to PIX 11.

Dennis spoke to a friend on the phone while she was near a bridge where she allegedly said that she would jump off the bridge, according to Flynn.

Dennis’s father previously spoke to BNC, expressing his frustration in law enforcement’s response to his missing daughter, telling Yodit Tewolde that they “fumbled” the case.

According to Flynn, officials are still searching for Dennis but said that her body might not be recovered.
