The second day of the Derek Chauvin trial was tense and emotional as more witnesses, including a 9-year-old girl, testified in the trial of the former cop accused of killing George Floyd.
“I had already assessed that he had an altered level of consciousness,” said Genevieve Hansen, a Minneapolis firefighter with EMT training who witnessed Chauvin’s knee in George Floyd’s neck. “What I needed to know was whether or not he had a pulse anymore.”
Hansen told the court that she felt that she could have saved Floyd’s life if the cops allowed her to give him medical assistance, which they refused.
An emotional Hansen said not being able to help Floyd left her “totally distressed” and frustrated.
Mixed martial artist, Donald Williams II, testified on Tuesday that he observed the former cop using a “blood chokehold” that usually leads to unconsciousness.
“They were not listening to anything that I was telling them,” said Williams, who called the police on the Chauvin and the other cops at the scene. “I felt like I had to speak out for Floyd because he was speaking out to the officer and there was no feedback, no emotion.”
The teenager who recorded the video of Floyd’s arrest and death that the world saw told the jury that Floyd cried out that he was in pain and cried out for his mother. She added that the incident changed her life.
A 9-year-old girl testified for five minutes today, telling the court that “the ambulance had to push [Chauvin] off of him,” something that BNC’s Dray Clark said was hard for the jury to hear.
