The deal comes after the success of Murphy working with the tech giant on Coming 2 America. The sequel was released on Prime Video on March 5 and became the No. 1 streamed movie of the weekend. According to Deadline, it holds the No. 1 spot for opening weekend viewership of any other streaming movie post-COVID theater shutdowns.
“Eddie is a legend both in front of and behind the camera,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “With undeniable comedic and dramatic genius, he consistently delivers entertaining, original stories and characters to audiences around the world. We could not be more excited to help carry on the tradition and to officially welcome Eddie into the Amazon family.”

Under the deal, Murphy will star in three movies for Amazon Studios and develop original films for Prime Video. The Emmy Award-winning actor was on a brief hiatus before starring in Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name.
His pact with Amazon comes as he is making his fourth Beverly Hills Cop film for Netflix.
Murphy is among other top talents who have signed deals with Amazon Studios, including Michael B. Jordan.
