Wright was shot and killed by former Brooklyn Center Police officer Kim Potter who allegedly meant to grab her Taser but instead discharged her gun during a traffic stop.

Police reportedly pulled Wright, a young father, over for air fresheners hanging from his rearview mirror.
Potter was later arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter.

After his death, the Wright family, Ben Crump and Reverend Al Sharpton held a press conference about the shooting. Sharpton announced that the National Action Network would cover the cost of the funeral.
On Wednesday, one day after Derek Chauvin was found guilty for the murder of George Floyd, the Wright family gathered for a private viewing.

Police are not present at the event, but armed members of the Minnesota Freedom Fighters were in attendance outside of the church.
