Ohio Chief Resigns After Leaving KKK Sign on Black Officer’s Desk

Anthony Campo has been with Sheffield Lake Police Department for 33 years and served as chief for 8 years before he retired. The former chief was caught on surveillance placing a “Ku Klux Klan” sign on a Black officer’s desk.

Former Sheffield Lake police chief leaves inappropriate message on Black officer’s jacket

According to Cleveland, Campo told Sheffield Lake mayor Dennis Bring that the note was a prank.

“He thought this was just a joke,” Bring said. “How can you possibly think that you can put something on somebody’s jacket like that, and especially if they were African American, and think this is a joke? This is the most egregious and offensive thing you could possibly do. And it’s embarrassing and disgusting.”

As reported by Cleveland, in the surveillance video the Black officer saw the KKK sign and laughed. He was stunned by his superior’s actions and all he could do was laugh.

The unidentified officer has not reported to file suit against the former chief, but he does have the support of mayor Bring.
