Friendly Customer Provides a House for a Homeless Dunkin’ Employee

An Ohio Dunkin’ employee was surprised with a fully furnished home from a customer she formed a friendship with during their daily drive-thru interactions, People magazine reported.  

The friendship began three years ago when Dunkin’ employee Ebony Johnson took Suzanne Burke’s morning coffee order where the two would chat during their daily routine.

“I go every morning,” Burke said. “Ebony has worked the drive-thru for three years and really has provided amazing customer service.” 

After Burke took notice of Johnson’s absence from her regular work shift, she discovered that the mother of three was homeless after being evicted from her Mount Healthy home.  

Burke reached out to various organizations and was able to secure Johnson’s family a home and furniture, right in time for the holidays. 

“When she experienced this hardship, I just wanted to see if I could help her just improve her life and the life for her kids,” Burke explained to People magazine. “I wanted to make sure that they had stable housing so that she could continue to provide the excellent service she does at Dunkin’.” 

Burke got help from New Life Furniture Bank, an organization that provides gently used furniture for those in need, and designer Jo Potvin of Design to Market.  

“It’s as much a gift for us as it is for them, to be able to provide this for them,” said Dana Saxton, executive director at New Life Furniture Bank.  

“I’m just so thankful we’re back in our home,” Johnson told WCPO. “The Lord really looked out for me because I kept praying and saying, ‘Could I be at home before Christmas?'”
