April 1, 2021

On the fourth day of the trial against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, George Floyd’s girlfriend testified that he was a “momma’s boy.” As Chauvin kneeled on his neck, Floyd said he could not breathe and begged for his mother in his final moments in life.

BNC’s Dray Clark met a group of mothers rallying for justice in Minneapolis. “A Mother’s Love,” founded about seven years ago, help families who have experienced trauma and tragedy. The members of the group have committed to being outside the courthouse every day of the trial.

Derrick Johnson, NAACP’s President and CEO, joined Sharon Reed on “George Floyd Death: Justice on Trial” to discuss the trial’s fourth day.

Johnson said, “The right to breathe is on trial.” As the trial resumes for Chauvin, Floyd’s family is still dealing with their loss. “Derek Chauvin is being provided the due process George Floyd was denied,” he said. “But when those officers got on the scene they decided to convict and sentence to death without any due process.”

Citing the viral video of Floyd’s death, he said no level of argument can destroy the evidence in the trial.
