After Judge Peter Cahill read the verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin, Ange Hillz created a portrait of Floyd within 24 hours, the magazine reported.
“My choice was to use a lot of color to represent all of the colors of people who supported this outcome… all of the diversity. I was so happy for the family. The world was so happy,” she said.
Floyd’s family received civil justice in a historic $27 million settlement from the city of Minneapolis.

Criminal justice followed when Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter and third-degree murder.
They are now pursuing legislative justice as they urge lawmakers to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
The bill, proposed by Representative Karen Bass, creates federal guidelines for police officers.

It lowers the criminal intent standard from willful to knowing or reckless to convict officers for misconduct. It also limits qualified immunity as a defense to liability and authorizes the Department of Justice to issue subpoenas in investigations.
In addition to those changes, the bill will create a national registry to compile information on complaints and records of police misconduct.
It passed in the House and is now sitting in the Senate, waiting for approval.
