Golden Globes Awards Sees Very Few Improvements in Diversity Nominees

In Summary

The HFPA spent months reforming racial and ethnic policies in the award voting membership after criticisms from Hollywood stars and the filming industry.

The Golden Globe Award nominees have been announced with some improvements in adding diversity to the awards after criticisms of ethical lapses by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Following NBC pulling the awards show for unethical practices and scathing articles from multiple news sources outlining the HFPA’s lack of Black voters, the group still announced their list of nominees.

According to a release from the Golden Globes, for eight months the HFPA has completely overhauled its bylaws, implementing sweeping changes.

A report from The New York Times states that the addition of 21 new members to increase diversity only came after some of Hollywood’s most influential turned against the Golden Globes. The HFPA’s initial attempts at making reforms were considered not enough, leading to some voting members within the HFPA resigning.
