Rockfeller Vincent was leading the investigation into the death of former President Jovenel Moise, whose assassination in July is still unsolved. “The Haitian nation is living the worst political crisis of its history,” he told CNN. The investigation led him to a Haitian-American pastor, hired soldiers from Colombia and members of Haiti’s police force.

In September, the investigation led Vicent to the current prime minister, Ariel Henry. The leading prosecutor in Haiti, Bed-Ford Claude, then said he would ask for charges to be filed against Henry, alleging there was evidence of phone calls between him and one of the suspected planners of the assassination. Claude also asked Henry to come in for questioning.

Things took a turn when Claude and Vincent were suddenly fired and removed from their positions. Vincent, who is now in hiding after being fired, said he thought the firing should have been reversed. “In all serious countries, once you are implicated in such an affair, the Prime Minister should offer his resignation. He should resign,” Vincent said. “And we are still waiting for him to resign. Because on the night of the president’s death, a few hours later … he had phone conversations with the president’s assassin.”

Henry, who became the country’s leader in July, denied the allegations against him.
