Students at Hampton University have called for the dismissal of the Universities Athletic Director Eugene Marshall Jr.
The outrage from students came on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020, after 7 days of silence pertaining to the current racial climate around the country.
Marshall would follow the student observed silence with a lengthy statement on the current racial climate via Twitter where he ended stating “ALL LIVES MATTER.”
Students have responded with a petition stating:
“As an employee of a school with civil rights and slave history embedded into the very soil of the campus, this is unacceptable. Civil rights legends such as Rosa Parks have attended and worked for Hampton. Booker T. Washington, founder of the illustrious Tuskegee University is a graduate of Hampton University. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on Hampton University’s campus. This is very disrespectful to current students as well as our alumni and we will not stand for it. We are formally requesting the resignation of Eugene Marshall jr. ”
BNC reached out to Hampton University for a statement, and the University had no comments on the petition of Marshalls resignation at this time.
So far, 1,871 people have signed the petition.
We will have more information on this story as it develops.
