Ky’Wuan Dukes was shocked to receive the offer from New York agency Vayner Sports for an endorsement deal.
The agency, who represents athletes, knew that Dukes would potentially be a good representation for the deal.
As reported by QCity Metro, Bojangles made a post to Instagram looking for potential college athletes to promote its food and products. Once Dukes was selected, he became the local face for Bojangles’ new chicken sandwich. This deal has made Dukes the first student-athlete from a HBCU to sign an endorsement deal with Bojangles.

Instead of mentioning how much money he received, Dukes reported that the endorsement deal was “a blessing in disguise.” “It was something positive that I needed to see,” he told QCity Metro. “I was just happy for the opportunity.”
Due to his North Carolina ties and familiarity with the Charolette chain restaurant, Bojangles believes this is what made him a “natural fit.”

Dukes hopes the new NCAA rule will bring more exposure to HBCU athletes.
“It’s already hard for us [HBCU student-athletes] as it is,” Dukes said. “I’m glad we get that rule because…we are able to promote ourselves from marketing and be introduced to things we’ve never really seen.”
