Homes Owned in Black Neighborhoods Undervalued  

Charles Blow talked with realtor Shanta Patton, who’s the vice president of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers Vice President, about the story of a Black homeowner who said that the appraisal for her home doubled when she hid her race.   

“It absolutely happens every time,” Patton said. “As Black real estate professionals, we tell our clients when they are anything but white that you need to remove every presence of yourself from this house to increase our opportunities.”
