The video, which went viral, showed a television set displaying security footage of a Black man attempting to burglarize the judge’s home. As the security footage is played, laughter can be heard in the background of the leaked video. One person in the video says, “That’s me. And mom’s yelling ‘N—– n—–.'” Another individual in the video then says, “We have a n—-. It’s a n—-, like a roach.”

Odinet’s lawyer, Dane Ciolino, told The Acadiana Advocate that Odinet feels “humiliated, embarrassed, and sorry for what she has done and the harm she has caused to the community.”

Ciolino also confirmed that Odinet would be taking a leave of absence. “I am going to call the Judiciary Commission and we are going to file the motion,” he said. “She intends to start a period of leave without pay.”

According to CNN, it remains unknown who recorded the video from inside Odinet’s home and how it became available to the public.

Odinet originally stated she had no recollection of the video, saying, “I was given a sedative at the time of the video. I have zero recollection of the video and the disturbing language used during it.”

Ciolino later confirmed it was the judge’s voice on the video using the racial slur. As calls for Odinet’s resignation began Tuesday, at least one law firm asked the judge to recuse herself from cases, The Acadiana Advocate reported.
