On Thursday, police responded to 8591 Mirabel Road after they received a report that shots were fired inside the FedEx Ground-Plainfield Operation Center.

Eight victims with gunshot wounds were pronounced dead at the facility.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Hole, was found dead with injuries police said are consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Hole had two assault rifles that police say he purchased legally in July and September 2020.

The eight victims of the shooting were identified as:

  • 32-year-old Matthew R. Alexander
  • 19-year-old Samaria Blackwell
  • 66-year-old Amarjeet Johal
  • 64-year-old Jaswinder Kaur
  • 68-year-old Jaswinder Singh
  • 48-year-old Amarjit Sekhon
  • 19-year-old Karlie Smith
  • 74-year-old John Weisert

Many victims in the shooting were members of the Sikh community.

The Sikh Coalition, a civil rights group, tweeted about the shooting, saying it expects law enforcement to conduct a “thorough investigation.”

Police and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett joined a community prayer vigil held to honor the victims.

According to the Associated Press, Hole was a former employee and FBI agents interviewed him last year after his mother called police to say he might commit “suicide by cop.”
