‘It is our house’: Start Your Day hosts talk violence at US Capitol

By: Alyssa Wilson

Just months after a deadly insurrection took place at the U.S. Capitol, law enforcement agencies are gearing up for another potential threat

On Thursday, BNC Start Your Day hosts Sharon Reed and Mike Hill talked about the continued violence stemming from QAnon conspiracy theorists fueled by former President Donald Trump’s lies of election fraud.

Reed says the U.S. Capitol is the home of the American people.

“We saw death, destruction and now we’ve got barbed wire around our house,” she said. “I consider not just the White House. All of it is our house.”

Hearings about the failure of the Capitol Police on January 6th have been taking place as lawmakers try to piece together how domestic terrorists were able to get inside.

Hill said the January insurrection sickened him as he recounted the attackers holding Confederate flags.

“That was totally disgusting and irresponsible, to say the least,” Hill said.

Both hosts agreed that former President Donald Trump acted and performed his presidential duties in ways that only served him.

“The previous administration was really, if you look at, a party of one,” Reed said.

Hill added that the people who accepted Trump’s actions are also responsible.

“It’s also the people who enabled him as well,” Hill said referencing the more than 74 million votes Trump received in the 2020 presidential election.

Reed says GOP calls for election integrity are really attempts at reinstituting voter suppression.
