Kamala Harris Calls Headlines About Her Buying a $375 Pot ‘Ridiculous’

In Summary

Following reports that she spent over $500 during a personal shopping trip in Paris, Vice President Kamala Harris said that conservative outrage over her purchases was ridiculous.

Vice President Kamala Harris called press reports over a personal shopping trip she took during an official visit to France in November “ridiculous,” CNN reported.

Harris was in Paris last month to help mend a relationship between the U.S. and France over a canceled submarine contract when she purchased over $500 in high-end cookware at a Paris store, including a $375 pot.

Republican lawmakers and conservative media outlets lambasted the vice president over her purchases, saying it was out of touch with everyday Americans who are struggling.

“While Americans are struggling to pay more than EVER for the holidays, Kamala Harris is out buying a $375 pot,” the GOP’s Twitter account wrote last month.

She told the San Francisco Chronicle that the headlines were “ridiculous.”

“Oh, how about, ‘She’s going to buy a pot on her way to the airport after a very significant and highly successful bilateral meeting in France on issues that are about national security, on issues that are about climate, on issues that are about what we are doing in terms of international norms and rules on everything from cyber to space.’ Come on,” Harris told the Chronicle.

Harris did not address reports about dysfunction in her office, resulting in top aides stepping down from their positions.

Earlier this month, sources confirmed to CNN that Harris’ chief spokesperson and senior adviser Symone Sanders was stepping down from her role at the end of the month.

“The President and vice president are grateful for Symone’s service and advocacy for this White House. She is a valued member, a team player, and she will be missed. We are grateful to have her working through the end of the year,” sources said.

In November, Harris’ communications director, Ashley Etienne, announced she’d be leaving the White House in December.
