The rapper and activist went on Instagram Live with BNC political contributor Tezlyn Figaro to discuss the importance for Black voters to plot, plan, strategize, organize and mobilize in elections.Election Day 2021 will take place on Nov. 2 as it’s the time for voters to go to the polls in local and state elections to elect people that will represent them. These races are important because as they say, “All politics is local.”
Additionally, it’s also important for Black and Brown communities to have their voices heard. It comes at a time when there are multiple states that have implemented voter restriction laws that critics say are designed to prevent people from voting.

“Black people across the globe need to be in a constant state of organization,” said Atlanta rapper-activist Michael Santiago Render, known as Killer Mike.
Two of the states on watch are New Jersey and Virginia, as they could be an indicator of how Democrats perform in the 2022 midterms. However, Killer Mike believes that Democrats do a good job at promising but not delivering.

“There’s a phenomenon that when [Democrats are] in trouble, they come out and say, ‘Hey, we’re in trouble. We need you to flip Georgia. We need you to flip Texas, and we got something for you when we done,’” he said. “I think in 2022, the Democrats are prepping to get beat pretty badly.”
The rapper is using his platform to get more people to vote. He made headlines last year after George Floyd’s murder when he went on live TV and gave an emotional speech in his hometown of Atlanta. He told people to “plot, plan, strategize, organize and mobilize” to vote for people who best represent them.

“First you plot something out, you think is it a good idea, then you get with other people and plan, then you strategize, you come up with what is a real strategy. If I show up and I sit on the lunch counter and I allow people to pour things on me and I allow the world to see how ugly that is,” said Killer Mike. “That’s a moral compass to show the world that things need to change.”
