The team is making the decision because they have been losing players to injuries and being placed on the league’s health and safety protocols list, resulting in a significant minutes load on their superstar players like Kevin Durant.
Irving continues to be adamant about not wanting to get vaccinated and not following New York City mandates. However, due to the circumstances of the 2021-22 NBA season, the team was forced to reconsider its position to sideline him until he got the shot.

Government rules allow the seven-time All-Star to practice at the home facility and the Nets agreed on a plan that would permit him to start getting up to speed to return to play, according to ESPN.
In order to rejoin the team, Irving has to test negative for five successive days. Once he’s given the green light, he would have to get tested every day because he is unvaccinated.
The Nets are going on a West Coast trip to play against the Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day and Los Angeles Clippers before returning home.

Irving has been anxious to get back on the court to play, as some of the team’s key players, head coach Steve Nash and Nets owner Joe Tsai have been in support of the idea, according to ESPN.
His return would be a big boost for the team as they try to compete for an NBA title.
