Letitia James Suspends Campaign for New York Governor

In Summary

James announced she was running for New York governor in October, saying at the time, "I'm running for Governor of New York because I have the experience, vision, and courage to take on the powerful on behalf of all New Yorkers.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James is suspending her campaign for New York governor and will run for re-election, she announced on Twitter Thursday.

The unexpected announcement came a few hours after her office revealed it was subpoenaing former President Donald Trump as part of New York’s civil fraud investigation into the Trump Organization, according to HuffPost.

James announced she was running for New York governor in October, saying at the time, “I’m running for Governor of New York because I have the experience, vision, and courage to take on the powerful on behalf of all New Yorkers.”

Her office was instrumental in the resignation of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who stepped down after a detailed investigation from James’ office detailed multiple cases of sexual harassment by Cuomo.

If James remained in the race, she would have run against current Gov. Kathy Hochul in New York’s Democratic Primary.
