The girl’s father, 34-year-old Dezmon Hamilton, died from multiple gunshot wounds. The shooter was identified as 17-year-old Nicholas Mcquirter.

Officers believe Mcquirter climbed a ladder and entered Hamilton’s home through a window on the second floor. A fight broke out after Hamilton confronted the teenage boy and the two each shot at one another, police said. The teen was injured and was taken to the hospital.

According to police, it is unclear who fired their gun first. The teen will be booked on charges of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
