Malcolm X Biographical Series in the Works with Help From His Daughter

A television series based on the life of activist icon Malcolm X is in the works. 

The series will be based on X’s biographical novels X: A Novel and The Awakening of Malcolm X, both of which were co-written by his daughter, Ilyasah Shabazz, as reported by Variety’s Joe Otterson.

X: A Novel begins with his childhood, while The Awakening of Malcolm X starts with him in prison, which is where he decides to join the Nation of Islam and transitions from Malcolm Little to the man who came to be known as Malcolm X.

Shabazz, who will executive produce the series, is also the author of Growing Up XMalcolm Little: The Boy Who Grew Up to Become Malcolm X, and Betty Before X. She serves as co-chair of The Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center in Harlem, New York, where her father was assassinated in 1965, per Otterson.
