The song first charted in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in December 2017 and in December 2019, 25 years after its initial release, became the second holiday single to ever reach No. 1, smashing yet another record. The 2019 feat also marked a record for a solo artist as Carey’s 19th claim to No. 1, and when it did it again the following year, she became the first artist to hold Top 100’s highest spot across four decades—the 1990s, the 2000s, the 2010s and the 2020s, per RIAA.
“The continued love for my song never ceases to amaze me and fill my heart with a multitude of emotions,” said Carey. “It blows my mind that ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ has endured different eras of the music industry. The RIAA DIAMOND award?! Wowww! I’m so fortunate to have the greatest fans on Earth, my Lambily, who continue to support my legacy. I love you.”
Adding to its extensive list of Billboard achievements, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was recently ranked the #1 song on its Greatest of All Time Holiday 100 Songs list, an achievement Carey was “freaking out” about on Twitter.
