There will be no need for a runoff in the race for mayor of Miami, because incumbent Francis X. Suarez won reelection on Tuesday night, easily defeating his lesser-known and lesser-experienced opponents to win his second four-year term, per The Miami Herald.
Suarez earned 86% of the vote when he was elected for the first time in 2017, and his second go-around appeared to be just as promising. He received almost 79% of mail ballots and early votes before Tuesday’s Election Day, putting him in a commanding lead before the polls even opened.

“My priorities are going to be what they’ve been since I started, they’re going to be affordable housing, making sure we’re the most climate resilient city on the planet, making sure we have a diverse economy with high paying jobs and making sure everyone in our city occupies one of those jobs,” Suarez said at his victory party, per NBC Miami.
He was challenged by digital sports show producer and podcaster Maxwell Martinez, University of Miami student Marie Exantus, private investigator Francisco Pichel and Anthony Dutrow. Mayra Joli, president and CEO of The Joli Law Firm, was previously in the race, but was disqualified after a judge found she didn’t live within Miami city limits.
Florida Politics reports Suarez consistently raised more money than his opponents in the fundraising department, pulling in $875,000 between Sept. 1 and Oct. 15 in the last stretch. He raised more than $4.8 million with his campaign and political committee Miami For Everyone.
