Michelle Obama said that she worries about her daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama, every time they drive by themselves, she said in an interview with CBS This Morning. The former first lady said that Black people “still live in fear” while doing activities, such as walking a dog or going to the supermarket.
“They’re driving. But every time they get in a car by themselves, I worry about what assumption is being made by somebody who doesn’t know everything about them,” Obama told Gayle King. “The fact that they are good students and polite girls. But maybe they’re playing their music a little loud. Maybe somebody sees the back of their head and makes an assumption.”

Obama’s comments came during a conversation about former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin’s being found guilty of murdering George Floyd, according to the Business Insider.
She said that issues that Black people face need to be addressed more. “We have to ask our fellow citizens to listen a bit more, and to believe us.”
