Mother of Drakeo the Ruler Plans to Sue Over Son’s Fatal Stabbing

In Summary

Drakeo the Ruler's mother said someone must be responsible for her son's fatal stabbing and she plans to sue Live Nation.

The mother of slain West Coast rapper Drakeo the Ruler has plans to file a lawsuit against the organizers of the Los Angeles music festival where her son was stabbed.

According to KABC, Darrylene Corniel said there was not enough security at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival where Drakeo the Ruler was set to perform on Sunday.

Corniel said someone needs to take responsibility for the failures that led to her son’s death at the Live Nation event. “This happened backstage at an event. Someone has to be held accountable.”

The rapper, whose real name is Darrel Caldwell, was 28 years old. Police confirmed a fight broke out around 8:30 p.m. at the festival.

“During the altercation, one man was severely injured by a suspect wielding an edged weapon. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), and Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the scene. The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injures,” CHP said in a statement.

Concert promoter Live Nation and organizer Snoop Dogg ended the concert early after the stabbing. “There was an altercation in the roadway backstage. Out of respect for those involved and in coordination with local authorities, artists and organizers decided not to move forward with the remaining sets, so the festival was ended an hour early,” Live Nation said.

The fatal stabbing makes Drakeo the Ruler the fourth rapper killed in Los Angeles in recent years after the deaths of Nipsey HusslePop Smoke and Slim 400.

Concert organizer Live Nation is also facing backlash following the Astroworld Festival in Texas, where 10 people died after a crowd surge, BNC previously reported.

Live Nation officials told Rolling Stone they will continue to assist authorities in the ongoing investigation into the rapper’s death.
