According to ABC 13 Houston, the incidents began around 9:15 p.m. when the crowd moved and pushed forward toward the stage. Nearly 50,000 people were in attendance at the sold-out concert.
“The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic,” Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said.

When it became apparent that multiple people were injured, the organizers of the concert stopped the show, ABC 13 Houston reported.
According to Peña, more than 300 people were treated at the event’s field hospital. Medics transported 23 people to local hospitals, and CPR was performed on at least 11 people. Several people in attendance went into cardiac arrest as the incidents took place, CNN reported.

The festival released a statement on Twitter, saying, “Our hearts are with the Astroworld Festival family tonight – especially those we lost and their loved ones. We are focused on supporting local officials however we can. With that in mind, the festival will no longer be held on Saturday.”
A reunification center was set up for people who were looking for their loved ones. People from outside of Houston who are looking for their family and friends who were in attendance at the festival can call 832-393-2991.
Police are investigating to determine if any deaths were caused by criminal activity.
