One person dead, officer injured in shooting at Tennessee high school

One person is dead and a police officer is injured after a shooting at a high school in Knoxville, Tennessee. 

According to Knoxville police, multiple agencies responded to the shooting at Austin-East Magnet High School around 3:15 p.m. on Monday. 

The police initially reported multiple gunshot victims, but then provided an update on the number. 

According to a press release posted on Twitter, one male was pronounced dead at the scene and another was detained by police.

A Knoxville, Tennessee police officer was shot while responding and taken to the UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bob Thomas, the superintendent of Knox County Schools, provided updates to parents on Twitter.

The investigation is still active and being led by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
