According to the Associated Press, their vehicles fell into a deep hole during the collapse after Hurricane Ida brought devastation through Mississippi and Louisiana.

Highway Patrol Cp. Cal Robertson said the collapse may have been caused by torrential rain and the drivers may not have seen that the roadway was not intact. “Some of these cars are stacked on top of each other,” he said.
